Golden Dragonfly Cottage

This unusual cottage was a private commission* and the client wanted a house with certain, specified features. The walls are predominantly White birch bark in several layers with specially selected White Birch branches for the framework. A removable roof has a magical translucent quality due to its layered construction of autumnal silk leaves. The stunning , functional  French doors are made from White Cedar twigs which feature a “Stained Glass” effect resulting from the application of enlarged and printed photographs of actual dragonfly wings and are fitted with antique glass beads for extra sparkle. Acorn lamps (with actual LED lights inside each) frame the entranceway. The windows carry the same motifs but are displaying single glass drops at the apex of the arched frame. The Gothic roofline allows for a dramatic cathedral-like vaulted space within the single-room structure which is fully finished and decorated with handmade Japanese papers, gilt leaves, silk flowers, and faux crystals. The house has specialized LED lighting which is battery-powered with the battery pack hidden under the removable front sandstone steps. A hand-made needle-felted rug embellished with gilt edged paper leaves covers the entire floor and entrance-way.

The exterior is gently landscaped with needle-felted custom-dyed wools, novelty yarns and silk leaves to give the feeling of the house being nested in a wild meadow.

*Please note: at this time, and with regret, the artist is unable to accept any individual or personal requests for a custom-made faerie house sculpture. Houses are now individually made and sold exclusively thru the artist’s website directly to collectors. Some small additions to such houses may be possible for the buyer that would have meaning to the buyer or the intended recipient. Such additions could include special flowers, shells or crystals, framed art inside the house, or an inscribed name of the new owner which would make the house extra-personal for the buyer.

This house is 100% hand-crafted by the artist and no other duplicate can or will ever be built. It is truly ONE of a kind.

This house is included in this gallery for people who enjoy seeing more details of individual house sculptures which have been sold in the past and now reside with their new collector/owners.
