It was with great surprise that I opened my computer this afternoon to finish writing this blog post and saw the Celtic art doodle on Google:
I was surprised, and a bit delighted because I had just completed photo-processing of this image:
for my upcoming book earlier on the same day that the Google doodle was published. What fun!!
I love when the Universe sends us synchronicities to remind us that there IS magic still in this world….despite what we may hear on the news.
That said, the news out of New Zealand hit me particularly hard on Friday as I have very fond memories of that land and the kind and generous people who get to call it “home”. I, along with millions of other people, am having a difficult time trying to process this moment when yet again, one person filled with hate can do so much damage to innocent lives. Much will be said. Much will be reflected upon…and laws along with attitudes will hopefully change as we try to heal our ravaged hearts and tender souls and ask ourselves how can this happen? And of course we pray for the innocents, if prayer brings comfort.
In my own life I am often questioning my self, my purpose and my work here in this world, at this time when so much hangs in the balance. I question especially the importance and relevance of such “fluffy” images when the world is in such turmoil and in need of deepest healing. Why do this work? Surely it is meaningless in the face of such darkness and heaviness. But I know that I cannot rationally provide an answer that will satisfy the logical part of my being. This work goes beyond logic and reason…that is the Way of Magic and just how it is when one is working with the Invisible realms. We must keep to our path. We must keep welcoming and honoring the Mysterious, the Great Mother and all the power and generosity that is the deep Feminine which lives in all manifested things, just as the sacred masculine does as well.
This spiral pattern is an ancient one, a Celtic homage to the Great Triple Goddess of times long ago, shrouded in mist and memory. So while some people will celebrate a certain Irish saint who’s story is also a bit cloudy and vague, the Triple Goddess is an even older and in some ways more powerful force that gets some respect by way of invoking images such as this. She is, for those who do not know, called a Triple Goddess because she is all things at once: young and innocent, fruitful and mothering, as well as wise and mature. She is a shape-shifter and Earth Mother. She is the green of Spring, the waters in the well and the barren branch in winter. She is, above all else: LIFE. Birthing, sustaining and dying all to be repeated again and again in endless spirals of evolution and mystery. And we, whether we acknowledge Her or not, are beholding to her – for it is upon her that all life as we know it, on this planet depends.
So I offer this image as my gift and tribute to the Great Mother, the Wise Woman, and the innocent Virgin – in this world and in all of us.
Namaste
